Parents’ Guide: Supporting Your Young Coder

Venturing into the world of coding can be a thrilling journey for your child. As a parent, you play an instrumental role in nurturing this newfound interest. While we at KidCoder provide a structured environment with group lessons to immerse students in coding, your support can amplify their experience. Here are some ways you can assist:

1. Create a Positive Learning Environment: Ensure your child has a dedicated, quiet space for their weekly classes and homework. A comfortable desk, a reliable computer, and a good internet connection can make all the difference.

2. Engage in Their Progress: While you might not be familiar with coding, showing interest in their achievements can be motivating. Ask them to explain what they’ve learned or to show you their Minecraft creations. It’s a great way for them to reinforce their knowledge and for you to connect.

3. Foster Consistency: While our Course 1 is beginner-friendly, regular practice is essential. Encourage your child to keep up with their weekly homework, setting aside dedicated time.

4.Encourage Peer Interaction:Being in a semi-private group of a maximum of 10 students offers a unique advantage. Encourage your child to collaborate, discuss, and problem-solve with their peers. This not only solidifies their understanding but also fosters teamwork.

5. Utilize the Discord Group Server: We’ve set up a dedicated Discord server for course discussions. Encourage your child to ask questions on the “instructor-questions” channel. If they’re more comfortable with a private query, they can directly message the instructor.

6. Review Recorded Classes: To reinforce understanding, have your child review the recorded sessions available. This can be beneficial if they want to revisit a concept or missed a particular class.

7. Preview Upcoming Sessions: Before each class, encourage your child to spend about 5 minutes reviewing the upcoming session’s content. PDFs are posted on the Discord’s “class-notes” channel, which can give them a head start.

8. Share Feedback: Your perspective is valuable. If you have suggestions or feel something can enhance the learning experience, please share. We aim to continually refine our courses for the best student experience.

9. Attend Presentation Day: On the 13th week, students get a chance to showcase their projects. Your presence during this day can boost their confidence and demonstrate that you value their hard work.
